Islam Perfectly Understands (and Answers) Judaism

Image
Judaism proclaims itself as the monotheistic faith of the Jews, an ethnoreligious minority Judaism aims to guide and elevate with various laws and teachings. It has immense influence, with other religions like Samaritanism, Mandaeism, and Christianity branching off from it. Mainstream Judaism is called Rabbinic Judaism, and is derived from the Written Torah, also known as the Tanakh or the Hebrew Bible, which itself is divided between the Torah ("teaching"), the Nevi'im ("prophets"), and the Ketuvim ("writings"); and the Oral Torah, oral teachings traditionally held to have been revealed to the Prophet Moses (عليه السلام) on Mount Sinai alongside the Written Torah that were eventually written down as the Mishnah , which, alongside the Gemara (Jewish rabbis' commentaries and debates regarding the Mishnah), forms the Talmud. Islam is a different monotheistic religion commonly associated with Judaism by virtue of the two being "Abrahamic"...

The Aorta Argument Does NOT Disprove Islam

Image
Certain Christian apologists claim Islam disproves itself via Quranic verses relating to the aorta, the human body's largest artery, and a Hadith regarding the Prophet Muhammad's ﷺ last days on Earth. There are all sorts of reasons why such a claim against Islam is obviously false, and today, I will go over some of them. The Claim Sahih al-Bukhari 4428  records the Prophet Muhammad as having said the following to his wife Aisha bint Abi Bakr (عليهما السلام) during the illness that later claimed his life: "يَا عَائِشَةُ مَا أَزَالُ أَجِدُ أَلَمَ الطَّعَامِ الَّذِي أَكَلْتُ بِخَيْبَرَ، فَهَذَا أَوَانُ وَجَدْتُ انْقِطَاعَ أَبْهَرِي مِنْ ذَلِكَ السَّمِّ" Translation : "O Aisha! I still feel the pain caused by the food I ate at Khaybar, and at this time, I feel as if my aorta is being cut by that poison." The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was referencing the time a Jewish woman tried killing him with a poisoned lamb as revenge for conquering the Jewish city of Khaybar to pu...

Steelmanning Russell's Teapot

Image
Bertrand Russell was an Englishman active in the fields of philosophy and mathematics in the twentieth-century. He is remembered for pioneering analytical philosophy to counter British idealism and prioritising the logical aspects of mathematics over its numerical aspects. Steelmanning is the opposite of strawmanning; instead of attacking a weak, non-existent caricature of an ideological opponent's argument, a steelmanner improves the opposing argument into its best version and then refutes it, even though the opponent did not argue the steelmanned version. Russell already had an impressive record of being a smart man, and he also made a well-known religion-targeted argument proving the philosophical burden of proof is on the one making claims. The analogy he used is called Russell's teapot, which I will explain and steelman to refute its application to arguments regarding religion. Steelmanning Russell's Teapot Bertrand Russell posited an analogy of him hypothetically clai...

What Atheists Understand the Least About Religion

Image
Religion is a subjective concept generally defined as a cultural set of various beliefs and moral codes pertaining to humanity and their relationship with the spiritual; that is, the immaterial, or that which cannot be directly interpreted via conventional sciences. This piece will hereby mostly refer to religion through the term "theism," as it invokes the image of religion in the metaphysical sense rather than the cultural sense. There are many different religions which all make varying claims on the reality of existence and morality. One thing these theistic traditions share in common, particularly the more philosophical ones like Islam and Christianity, is that many atheists (those who reject all religions) seem to always misunderstand the sincerity of their adherents.  Why May Atheists Misunderstand Theism? A major factor in many atheists misrepresenting theism may be their view of all religions and their teachings as simply archaic rulebooks rulers use to control the ma...

What is Bisha'a?

Image
Not too long ago, a video of Bedouin Arab women being burned on their tongues with iron circulated online. Certain non-Muslims have claimed that this was part of some misogynistic test of honesty called "Bisha'a" (بشعة), and that it was fully endorsed in Islam. This article shall aim to shed light on Bisha'a and its relation to Islam. Response Firstly, there is no "lie detector test" in Islam (seriously, go try to look up if there is one. You will not find anything from reliable sources.). A person, whether male or female, is to be presumed as honest until proven otherwise, whether through confession that is not forced or other methods, similar to the Western justice system. Secondly, the only Islamic ways to tell if one has committed adultery are four reliable witnesses saying they have witnessed the defendant committing adultery or the defendant themselves confessing to adultery without being coerced into confession. In general, testing one's virginity...

The "Islamic Dilemma" Is a Joke

Image
Relatively recently, I have seen Christian apologists claim the Holy Quran, the Word of God, "affirms" the Bible and claims it is preserved, which is a situation they call the "Islamic dilemma." I am writing this blog since my philosophy teacher for my current high school semester, who is a Catholic Christian, attempted to tell a classmate inquiring about the "Abrahamic faiths" about this so-called dilemma, with me having to correct her after class hours on this. The Claim The claim relies on a misunderstanding of Verse 48 of the fifth chapter of the Quran, Surat al-Ma'idah. The verse is the following:
