How My Senior Prom Went
On Friday, May 22, 2026, I had my high school senior promenade dance. It lasted from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM and took place at a high-end Italian cultural association centre. After my father dropped me off at the place from his car, I went up to the room my school was having their prom in, checked in with my ticket, and sat at my reserved table, which a couple of my friends were at. Every boy, including myself, was wearing suits and ties, and every girl was wearing dresses. A lot of my friends had dates for the night, but I did not have one for myself.
Dinner started at about 7:00 PM. First, we were given a bread basket. I ate two loaves of bread, as I was quite hungry. Next, penne pasta was served. I took two medium-sized helpings of the pasta. After that, salad consisting of lettuce, vinegar, grape tomatoes, and cucumbers was served. I enjoyed the vinegary taste of the lettuce. Then, we were served steamed carrot slices, broccoli, and cauliflower, which I loved due to my fondness for such vegetables when steamed. We were then served roast chicken with roast potatoes, which were very tasty, although my chicken had too much bone and cartilage. The final food items served were some sweets, including custard tarts and cannoli, the latter of which I enjoyed a lot. Additionally, I drank a few cups of Pepsi throughout the night. I was hoping for some pizza, as in my school's past events here, they had some nice, square-shaped pizza slices served. But, they were not available tonight.
A while after dinner, the disc jockey started making the music louder, signalling it was now time to spend hours on the dance floor dancing, which I did. The first song for dancing was Rich Baby Daddy by Drake, Sexyy Red, and SZA. I am not a fan of this song, and I am certainly not a fan of Sexyy Red, so you can imagine my disgust hearing her voice blare on the speakers.
In general, a lot of songs from Drake and from Nicki Minaj were played throughout the night, which I understand, as they tend to make "club bangers" and are alright for party settings. Some of the songs were Assyrian and Arabic songs, which were likely suggestions by my Assyrian and Arab Christian peers, many of whom attended the prom. The DJ took a couple of my song suggestions throughout the prom (Antidote by Travis Scott and Mo Bamba by Sheck Wes), which was nice. I danced quite well and captivated the attention of my peers a couple of times. I got quite tired near the end of the night
Overall, I would say I am satisfied, but not satisfied enough. I do wish prom could have been more fun and memorable, although I do not know exactly how it could have been that way.
